Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (PAP) Measurement

Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (PAP) Measurement is an indicator of an animal's ability to survive at higher elevations and not experience "Brisket Disease". Dr. Tim Holt, DVM, is the expert in this area, having developed the protocol and tested animals around the world.

The scores on the following bulls were taken by Dr. Holt while they were housed at Rocky Mountain Sire Services, Bennett, CO, at an elevation of 5200 feet. Dr. Holt cautions all of his clients that this is not a guarantee that a bull and his offspring will perform well at high elevations, but an indicator that can give producers information to make selection decisions. In other words, a bull with a low PAP score at this elevation may very well work at high elevations, but a bull with a high PAP should be avoided.
