Accelerated Genetics

Its moving time at the Accelerated Genetics Production Facility in Westby, Wisconsin. The new EU Semen Processing Lab and Semen Distribution Center are now in operation. This complex is located on the West Farm adjacent to the Collection Facility, Accel Inn and Palace.

Fast work took place over the last few months getting this state-of-the-art facility ready. “The new lab design will be streamlined processing, that will have more organized work flow, therefore improve efficiencies with the entire semen processing,” comments Jim Martin, Vice President of Semen Production and Technology. “With the larger capacity lab space we will have the ability to process more semen and do it more efficiently, yet continuing with our high quality standards.”

With the labs new location, next to the collection area where the majority of the bulls are collected, the semen will be dropped into the lab through a window, then work will begin on the semen with evaluation, extending, cooling, packaging, and freezing. Once frozen it will head next door to the new distribution warehouse for storage.

“As our semen production and sales have grown rapidly over the last few years, the new warehouse will better allow for future growth as well as improve efficiencies and movement of product to the farm,” states Rick Volten, Vice President of Products and Product Development. “Additionally, we have installed a state-of-the-art liquid nitrogen delivery system which will ensure safe and efficient use of this material throughout both the warehouse and the lab.” In addition, the warehouse will be a climate controlled work environment that is more conducive for liquid nitrogen handling and will be equipped with oxygen meters and an air exchange system to ensure a safe working environment. The same oxygen meters were also installed in the lab, with a low level warning system.

The new warehouse has a larger capacity for semen storage and work space, allowing for future growth. This will allow greater efficiency of work, safe semen storage, and timely distribution out to sales representatives and ultimately customers.
